Size Matters! It's Magnum Apéro!

February 25, Wednesday, at 18.00-21.00

Wine Collectors, Rīga

"Size Matters!" is a part of Riga Wine & Champagne Spring Session

€89, limited availability

Festival opening evening

Join us at Wine Collectors for the festival’s opening night: noble Champagne magnums, music curated by the Pink Noise Riga music festival, and gourmet bites available for a symbolic fee.

Why magnums?

Because in magnums, quite simply, everything tastes better — especially Champagne. Proven and tested on our own tongues and with our own money!

And yes, the magnum (the 1.5 L bottle) is only the very first step in the hierarchy of large formats (jeroboams, salmanazars, balthazars, nebuchadnezzars… and plenty more). But on opening night — let everything flow in magnums.

How will it work?

Walk-around tasting format: pick up your glass at the entrance, wander around the giant counter — aka the huge table created by Andris Eglītis — and ask to be poured whatever your heart desires.

Snacks: served right there as well — brought to you together with Wine Collectors’ new lounge — for an additional fee.

Availability: from each Champagne there will be exactly one magnum. Obviously, it won’t be enough for everyone — but we can guarantee: no one will leave thirsty…

Sommeliers & storytellers: Peter Liem, Aigars Nords, Wine Collectors’ soul Raimonds Tomsons and Agnese Gintere — plus winemakers who have already made it to Riga.

P.S.
You can, of course, spit the Champagne so you can taste the maximum number of magnums… but, well — your call. 😉

Which magnums will we be enjoying?

“Somewhere you’ve surely heard the line that ‘a magnum is a tortoise, while a regular bottle is a rabbit.’ As strange as it sounds, the idea is simple — drinks bottled in large formats tend to mature much more slowly and predictably.

For this reason, wine in a magnum theoretically ages twice as slowly as in a standard 750 ml bottle… For this very same reason, magnums are so highly sought after among collectors.”

Aigars Nords, “Vīns un Nords”
